I had posted a few posts about Facebook and Twitter and how these social networking sites are changing the way we communicate and helping a wide number of users to stay in touch with friends, etc… A little different thought I had in mind when I came back from work while I was browsing… Thought, lets explore which of the social networking sites has the max number of records when searched on the web. Tried the google fight site to find the number of such records. And the results were not surprising when I compared Facebook, Twitter and Orkut… the winner was twitter with huge number of records. However, the unique hits received by fb are much higher than that of twitter… During Feb 2009, fb received around 65 mn unique hits while compared to 7 mn by twitter. In a short span of time fb managed to grow at a rapid rate from 20 mn users as of 7th January 2006 to around 240 mn by the end of 2nd July 2009 (source). That was a good good and a good growth rate! while orkut and twitter struggled to match the number of unique hits counted on fb. The real-time home page of fb along with apps and some silly but interesting quizzes continues to attract more and more users…While fb offers more features than twitter or orkut… it is likely to grow with a huge user base…
